San Guillermo Church, Bacolor, Pampanga

There are days when I really feel the urge to connect: to my roots and my religion. And there's nothing more calming than praying inside a Church where its peaceful and quiet so I go places whenever I have the chance.

San Guillermo Parish Church has always been on my list of must-visit Churches in the whole archipelago. Not only because of its beauty but because of its rich history as well.

The Church was first constructed in 1576 by Agustinian Friars. By coincidence, the Church's name is after the towns' patron saint, San Guillermo and the name of the lot owner is named Don Guillermo Manabat, the landlord believed to be the founder of Bacolor.

It was hit by a massive earthquake back in 1880 and rebuilt as it is now by Fr. Eugenio Alvarez. Then as Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991, it buried the 12-meter height in half. So all that's left now is half of the Church. 

I wonder if there's a chance that they'll unmask the other half in generations to come. It would be golden and I hope I'm still alive when that happens.
